How We Ship Old Style Window Glass
Glass, of course, is fragile, but we have years of experience shipping glass all over North America, without breakage, and with the lowest rates available. All of our glass is shipped with insurance and in the event you receive a damaged order, we will send replacement glass to you right away. We custom package all of our glass to ensure that you are not paying a penny more than you need to.
We encourage you to order the sizes you need. Shipping full sheets is the most expensive way to ship.
• Small panes of glass are custom packaged in bubble wrap and cardboard, with reinforced edges and shipped with UPS Ground. We do not ship with FedEx.
• Larger sized pieces are shipped by UPS Ground in a custom wooden box to ensure their safe arrival.
• Multiple sheets and large orders get packed in a custom made crate and secured to a pallet. We shop for the best and most reliable LTL carriers to ensure you get your order delivered quickly, and economically.

How to Measure for Window Glass
To get the most accurate sizes, measure the space where the glass will be installed (glazed). Most windows are glazed from the outside. If possible, remove putty and the old glass and determine the "tight size" to the nearest 1/16", and then subtract 1/8". This will provide 1/16" space around the glass to accommodate any racking or warping of the frame.
If you do not have exact sizes for your quote, add an extra inch to your sizes, so that we can produce an accurate quote. It's easier to remove extra glass, than to stretch it to a bigger size. ;)

Tempered Glass
Once glass is cut to size, it can be tempered to provide added strength (4Xs stronger than annealed glass). Glass is also tempered for added safety, as when it is broken, it will shatter into small granular chunks instead of jagged shards. Tempering is a process where the glass is heated up and then cooled very quickly to add tensile stress to the glass. Tempered glass can not be cut.
Glass being installed in doors, around doors (sidelights) and other high traffic areas, should be tempered, and is required by code in most circumstances. Glass in windows and above counter cupboards, typically does not need to be tempered.
All types of Old Style Window glass can be tempered. Because we send our glass to a tempering facility, it can take three to four weeks to complete.
